Laurel Airport is the busiest non-commercial, general aviation airport
in Eastern Montana. Currently over 100 aircraft are based
in Laurel. The expansion has begun to rebuild the entire
facility.
The new runway won the 2001 Quality in Construction Award for excellence
in construction of an asphalt surface from the National
Asphalt Pavement Association. The new construction
allows service of 100% of the general aviation fleet of the
B2 Class (planes up to 12,500 pounds, wing spans up to 79'
with 10 or fewer passengers). The project includes the
addition of a new ramp and a parallel taxiway as well as the
2002 summer completion of new taxi lanes and hanger areas. In
2004 the airport purchased a new snow plow to keep the facilities
prepared for year around access.
For training purposes, try the shorter, narrower, uphill, downhill, over-a-tree
runway with minimum traffic! The training course provides
lots of take-off/landings per hour - a great way to sharpen
the flying skills. For those who prefer sod, the sod
runway will meet the need.
For the outdoor enthusiast, camping facilities are available on
the airport grounds. Local motel and rental car accommodations
are also available.
Airport Authority
Laurel, by resolution of its city council, created a municipal airport
authority which is comprised of five persons as commissioners of the
authority. The commissioners who are appointed for a term of 5 years, are
charged with all responsibility and power to carry out the necessary
decisions and actions to operate and maintain the airport facility. The
current commissioners of the Laurel Municipal Airport Authority are pictured
